Very rare and unusual Lyre Cartel Clock, 90 cm., signed Causard Horloger du Roy a Paris. Succ. to Lacour. The bezel around the face and movement is actually the pendulum.

Beautiful first period Cartel clock in perfect condition. Dial signed Courtois H.ger Du Roi Sui La Cour, has a crowwheel escapement. Courtois was a clock and watchmaker in French from 1750-1772. He invented sliding carillon barrel moved by cam, approved by Academy of Science. The verge (or crown wheel) escapement is the earliest known type of mechanical escapement. Verge escapements were used from the 14th Century until about 1800 in clocks. The name verge comes from the Latin Virga, meaning stick or rod. In mechanical clocks, and escapement is a device which converts continuous rotational motion into an oscillating or back and forth motion. It is the source of the 'ticking' sound produced by clocks.

Jean Baptiste was a maitre horloger in Paris, France around 1762. The dial is signed: Jean B. Helye, Reu Nueve St. Mederic (Dictionnaire des Horloge Tardy, pg. 294). It is a very heavy bronze clock (21 kg) with an eight-day movement striking on 3 bells. Around 1 meter high and 50 cm wide. Grande Sonnerie (Frech meaning 'grand strike') is a complication in a mechanical clock which combines a quarter striking mechanism with a repeater. On the quarter-hour, it strikes the nuimeber of hours audibly on a gong and then the number of quarter-hours since the hour on a gong.

Second Period heavy Cartel Clock. Case of typical form, white enamel dial signed: Ghiout L'Aine a Paris, with pierced ormolu hands. The case is signed, Eug. Bazart a Paris, which make us believe that Ghiout L'Aine was the retailer since Eugene Bazart was a wellknown Parisian bronzier.

A very nice Victorian gilt-bronze Louis XVI style cartel clock modeled as a wreath in which the dial is placed. The well-cast gilt-bronze curvilinear case is adorned with numerous mounts that incluide the scrolling foliage. The movement is a Japy Freres and has the clock makers mark on the back plate. It is of excellent quality as you would expect from this maker and in excellent condition.

This clock features the traditional gilt finish. Swedish giltwood wall clock in Louis XVI style. It was fashioned with a floral and bow cres. The ribbons cascading along the floral details on the side. The base elongate to accomodate the second hand. Was designed with a fluted border and pine apple finial. On the dial: Ahlstrom, Skofde.

The well cast and finished a-symmetrical case has a large one-piece porcelain dial with black lettering, ormolu cast and molded glazed bezel, large roman numerals for the hours. The Cartel Wall Clock is modelled as a wreath in which the dial is placed. Not signed. The top of the case has a quiver filled with arrows. Underneath the dial you'll see a rams head, which give you the idea of a hunters clock. In perfect condition.
