A very fine early 'Act of Parliament' clock, circa 1760.Althoughhh these cocks are popularly called 'Act of Parliament' clocks, after WilliamPitt's introduction of tax on clocks and watches in 1797, they had been in existence for some years before this and were known as Tavern clocks.

An Austrian carved giltwood and gilt metal frame clock, white enamel dial with blued steel hands, Apollo mask pendulum. Frame clocks, between 1820-1840, were typical of the South germain and Austrian interior areas. The decorations were made in plaster and gilded frame clocks almost always have four quarter striking on coiled gongs. This one also had a music box.

The Zaanse clock is a traditional style of Dutch wall clock that originated in the City of Zaandam, the Netherlands. It is identified by its ornately carved oak case, brass panels, the figure of Atlas holding the weight of the world on his shoulders at the top, and the motto: Nu Elck Sijn Sin, which means "To each his own".

The ribbons cascading along the floral details on the side. The base elongate to accomodate the second hand. Was designed with a fluted border and pineapple finial.
